Alphabet

Motion | Exhibition

In collaboration with Canadian artist Charlotte Wall, I had the opportunity to explore the generational transformation of the English alphabet through the lens of digital media. For this artwork, I translated Charlotte Wall's script into binary code and designed a 12-hour loop motion for it.

This piece was exhibited and represented by the Paul Kyle Gallery.

Date - August 2023

Artist - Charlotte Wall

Motion - Sadaf Asl Soleimani

On 5 glass panels Charlotte Wall has written:

This is not new

This is not a novel

This is not a contract or a last will

This is the alphabet

Behind these glass panels, a monitor displays the same paragraph in binary code. To further showcase the changing relationship between the form and materiality of language (Wall, 2023), each binary code transforms back into its corresponding letter and accumulates at the bottom of the screen, resembling snowflakes settling on the edge of a window.
